Chico City Hall

In 2007 the Chico City Council unanimously adopted an Economic Strategy (PDF 172 KB) to strengthen the economic base of Chico. They defined the City’s role in the economy: “to assist in creating the conditions that foster investment to occur within the community.”

Areas of Responsibility

The Council identified the following six areas in which the City has leadership responsibility:

• Economic vision and strategy (PDF 188 KB)
• Positive business climate
• Readiness of physical conditions
  • Land, built space, infrastructure, regulatory process
  • Site Assistance/Development Assistance 
• Public investment to spur investment
• Partnership across sectors with education and business
• Economic quality of life (safety, traffic, roads, housing and public amenities) 

Business Assistance

The Council further defined the areas in which the City can assist:

• Talent – Development, attraction, retention
• Base Level Employers & Entrepreneurs – Retention, expansion, startup, attraction
• Service Sectors
  • Strengthen and ensure vitality of the commercial districts (PDF 3.8 MB)
  • Pursue goodfit tourism
• Place-making – Around recreation, entertainment, and arts
